Man suffers serious injuries as boat overturns off Gozo

The incident happened at around 3pm at the Imġarr waterfront in Gozo

A man has been left with serious injuries after his boat overturned at the Imġarr waterfront in Gozo yesterday afternoon.

Police said the man, a 35-year-old from Mellieħa, was pulled from the sea and given first aid by people in the area.

The police were called for help at the Imġarr waterfront at around 3:15pm and arrived at the scene immediately. 

Initial investigations showed that shortly before, the man had found himself in difficulty while on his boat, which then overturned. 

He was brought to the quay at Imġarr by members of the Armed Forces of Malta. 

He was taken to Gozo General Hospital by ambulance and was later moved to Mater Dei Hospital, where he was certified with serious injuries.

Magistrate Dr Monica Vella has been informed of the case and has opened a magisterial inquiry. 

Police investigations into the incident are still going on.
