Bus, truck and three cars collide in Mosta, seven people injured

A road crash in Mosta sees a truck and a bus collide head on in an accident that also involves three cars • Seven people injured

A public transport bus and a truck collided head-on in Mosta, trapping the bus driver and triggering a three-car collision that left seven people injured.

The force of the impact sent the King Long bus backwards, causing it to hit three cars. The bus, with passengers still on board, then rolled back along Triq il-Missjunarji Maltin before crashing into a road barrier.

The crash happened at around noon in Triq ta' Żejfa, in front of the Mount St Joseph retreat home.

Members of the Civil Protection Department and a medical team were called to the scene and began efforts to free the bus driver from the wreckage. He and the truck driver were later rushed to Mater Dei Hospital, where both were certified to have suffered serious injuries.

Five bus passengers were also taken to hospital for treatment after sustaining minor injuries in the accident.

Both the bus and the Isuzu truck were badly damaged, while a Peugeot 2008, a Mercedes E220D and a Maruti 800 sustained minor damage. The drivers of those vehicles were not injured.

An inquiry was appointed to Magistrate Monica Borg Galea.

Police investigations are ongoing.
