Teenage boy dies after swimming difficulty in Xgħajra
Police say the 15-year-old, from Pakistan and residing in Xgħajra, was pulled unconscious from the sea by bystanders before being rushed to hospital
A 15-year-old boy has died after getting into difficulty while swimming off the Xgħajra coast.
Police say they were alerted at around 5pm on Saturday that assistance was needed in the waters near the Xgħajra slipway.
Officers, together with a medical team from Mater Dei Hospital, made their way to the scene, where they found the youth unconscious.
He had been pulled from the sea by people who were on site at the time, who also began administering first aid.
The victim, from Pakistan who lived in Xgħajra was taken to hospital by ambulance for further medical attention but was pronounced dead a short while later.
Magistrate Monica Borg Galea was informed of the case and has appointed an inquiry.
Police investigations are ongoing.
