Toddler in serious condition after nearly drowning in Marsaxlokk

A one-year-and-seven-month-old girl from Ħaż-Żabbar is in serious condition after she got into difficulty in the sea at Marsaxlokk

A toddler from Ħaż-Żabbar has been left in a serious condition after getting into difficulty in the sea at Bajja tal-Magħluq, Marsaxlokk, on Saturday night.

Police were informed at around 10:30pm that assistance was needed in the area after the one-year-and-seven-month-old girl left the company of family members and made her way into the sea alone for a short while.

Initial investigations suggested that she had swallowed some water and had begun struggling to breathe.

Police and a medical team rushed to the scene, where they found the girl being assisted by family members.

She was taken to Mater Dei Hospital by ambulance.

Magistrate Monica Borg Galea was informed of the case and has appointed an inquiry.

Police investigations are ongoing.
