Man arrested over Bormla vehicle vandalism

Police have arrested a 41-year-old man from Bormla in connection with a series of vandalism attacks on vehicles in the locality, following a lengthy investigation.

In recent weeks, police have received several reports from residents who found their car windows smashed.

Speaking to MaltaToday, several residents described their frustration at the ongoing attacks, with one saying a family member's car had a stereo stolen the first time it was targeted, while a second attack left only a smashed window and a brick on the car seat. 

The vandalism, which residents say began around three months ago, had become a regular occurrence in streets surrounding the Verdala Secondary School and the St Margaret College Middle School, with some residents reporting broken glass on the ground almost every other day.

Others recalled waking up to broken rear windscreens, and one resident described finding six cars with smashed windows in a single morning.

Residents had appealed to the authorities for more patrols and proper investigations, with one telling this newspaper that they were reaching a tipping point over the senseless vandalism.

After days of investigation and surveillance, police arrested the man a few hours ago.

While investigations remain ongoing, the man is expected to be arraigned in court in the coming days
