Man dead after suffering medical episode while diving in Sliema

A 48-year-old Ukrainian diver was dragged to shore dead after suffering a medical episode while underwater off Sliema.

Police were called to the scene at around 2:30pm on Saturday following reports of the incident.

Emergency responders on site in St Julian's brought the body to shore on a boat.

Initial investigations established that the man had suffered a medical issue while diving, although the exact circumstances remain unclear.

He was certified dead on the scene.
