Violent fight in Birzebbuġa lands man in court
Court hears how victim walked into the Birżebbuġa police station with significant injuries in his face
A 44-year-old Bosnian man has been arraigned in court after allegedly grievously injuring another man during a violent altercation in Birżebbuġa.
Inspector Antonello Magri told the court that the victim walked into the Birżebbuġa police station with significant facial injuries. His face was severely swollen, with one eye completely swollen shut, and he was later found to have suffered facial fractures.
The man told police that he had been involved in an argument with another man in Birżebbuġa earlier that evening. He provided officers with the aggressor’s mobile phone and, following further investigation, police identified the alleged aggressor as Nenad Danilovic. Police also obtained CCTV footage from a nearby shop which allegedly captured the altercation.
The alleged victim told investigators that he did not even know what had sparked the argument, but claimed that Danilovic had repeatedly punched him in the face.
The court also heard that Danilovic and the alleged victim knew each other and had previously worked together.
Danilovic pleaded not guilty to causing grievous bodily harm, breaching the public peace and making threats and insults.
He was remanded in custody and the court issued a protection order in favour of the alleged victim.
Inspector Antonello Magri and Attorney General lawyer Julia Micallef Stafrace prosecuted. Legal aid lawyer Francois Dalli appeared for Danilovic. Duty Magistrate Antoine Agius Bonnici presided.
