Swedish youths handed suspended jail term after injuring co-nationals
Magistrate condemns their 'cowardly act'.
Four Swedish youths were handed a four-year suspended jail term after pleading guilty to assaulting and injuring two co-nationals during a fight in St Julian's.
The court heard how the four Swedish nationals currently reside in Malta and work for a company offering financial services. In the past days, one of the accused was asked by the company to present personal documents after it was alleged he was unfit for his post. The person behind the allegation was his 20-year-old co-worker Rebecca Nilsson.
On 24th August, Christopher Szulc, 20, Cid Fredholm, 22, Andreas Hammarberg, 23 and Amir Saleh, 21, invited Rebecca and her boyfriend to their apartment in Mensija Road, St Julians to discuss the issue. An argument ensued during which Nilsson’s boyfriend suffered a broken nose among other injuries.
Magistrate Ian Farrugia lashed out at the four youths saying they should be ashamed of themselves. "Your acts show you’re a bunch of cowards", the Magistrate said.
In a separate case, the two victims were charged with slightly injuring one of their aggressors but the charges were dropped.
