Storekeeper charged with handling stolen goods
Court conditionally discharges a storekeeper after pleading guilty to handling stolen goods.
Joseph Camilleri, 43 of Zabbar was conditionally discharged after pleading guilty to handling stolen property.
The prosecuting inspectors explained how the police found stolen items in the man's keeping. Camilleri, who works as a storekeeper claimed he was not aware the items were stolen.
The defence lawyer and the prosecuting officer agreed that Camilleri was no seasoned criminal.
Nevertheless, Magistrate Antonio Micallef Trigona argued that handling stolen property is no petty offence and the accused should understand the consequences of his action.
Joseph Camilleri has handed an 18-month conditional discharge. Lawyer Franco Debono appeared for the accused.
