American trafficker jailed for six years

An American man is jailed for six years and fined  €15,000 after admitting to having imported half a kilo of miao miao drug in March 2011.

American national, Rodney Andrew Molt was jailed for six years and fined  €15,000 upon admitting to the charges.

On the 4 March 2011, officers from the Anti-Drug Squad were informed of a parcel which had arrived in Malta from Prague. The parcel was suspected to contain drugs and was destined to a residence in Attard. The police intercepted the parcel in which half a kilo of miao miao - also known as mephedrone - was found packaged in four separate blocks. A small quantity of cocaine was also found.

The accused admitted to the charges instead of facing a trial by jury. Mr Justice Michael Mallia jailed Molt for six years and fined him €15,000. The court also ordered the destruction of the drugs found.

Lawyer Roberto Montalto appeared for the accused.

24-year-old Romainian, Ana-Marie Beatrice Ciocanel, was also arrested and arraigned in connection with this case. Her case is still ongoing.
