Man admits to stealing cigarettes

Man conditionally discharged over theft of 40 packets of Marlboro cigarettes from the airport.

Marcellino Micallef, 56, of Iklin, was handed a two-year conditional discharge after admitting to stealing 40 packets of Marlboro cigarettes from the Malta International Airport.

The case goes back to 27 December 2013. Prosecuting inspector Victor Aquilina informed the court that the accused had fully cooperated with the police, and the stolen cigarettes had been returned. “Moreover, Micallef is no seasoned criminal and has only had minor traffic related contraventions”, the inspector said.

In delivering judgement, Magistrate Consuelo Pillar Scerri Herrera noted the prosecution’s comments and considered the accused’s early guilty plea. Marcellino Micallef was conditionally discharged for two years.
