Man alleging robbery charged with filing false report

A man who claimed he was robbed by an Italian man finds himself in the dock charged with filing a false police report.

Nigerian Abubakar Imrahim Jabril was granted bail after pleading not guilty to filing a false police report.

The 29-year old reported to the police that he suffered a hold-up at the hands of a certain Italian national, Salvatore Caschetto. However, investigations revealed that the Italian had lent €5,000 to the accused.

After Jabril pleaded not guilty, legal aid Simon Micallef Stafrace requested bail.

Magistrate Natasha Galea Debono granted the accused bail against a deposit of €500 and a personal guarantee of €5,000.

Inspectors Joseph Mercieca and Spiridione Zammit prosecuted.
