Two men accused of theft, plead not guilty

Two men appeared before a Gozo court this morning, pleading not guilty to charges of theft and accepting stolen items

Two men have been arrested and brought before a Gozo court on charges of theft and accepting stolen items, the police said in a statement.

The two men, a 25-year-old Mtarfa resident and a 36-year-old Marsaskala resident, were arrested following a series of thefts from Marsalforn, Gozo.

The 36-year-old accused is also charged with recidivism.

The police were tipped off about the ongoing criminality after a woman reported to the police on 24 August, at around 4:30pm, that her personal belongings had been stolen from the beach.

In a court presided by duty magistrate Joanne Vella Cuschieri, both of the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges against them. They were granted bail under several conditions, including a €1,000 deposit and a personal guarantee of €3,000.
