Two brothers arrested in police drugs raid

Child protection services were also required to care for an eight-year-old minor

Two brothers were arrested in a raid by the police drugs squad and the Rapid Intervention Unit on Thursday after being found in possession of various types of drugs.

In a statement, the police said the raid had taken place at a residence in Triq Santa Tereza in Birkirkara.

Two brothers, one aged 18 and the other 22, were arrested after the police had observed them entering and leaving the residence on a number of occasions at various times of day.

The police said that a number of packets with a green substance in them which the police believe to be synthetic cannabis ready to be trafficked. A number of bags containing cannabis and ecstasy, as well as cash were also found at the residence.

The police said that a 44-year-old women and her eight-year-old child were also present in the residence at the time of the raid. It said that because of the unhygienic conditions in the residence, as well as the exposure to drugs, the assistance of child protection services was requested.

A magisterial inquiry is ongoing.
