Mediterranean Maritime Fuel Hub will create some 150 jobs, PN says
The PN insisted that the project is 'future-proof' since it can quickly adapt to changes in the fuel market with no added costs
The Nationalist Party (PN) said that the proposed Mediterranean Maritime Fuel Hub would generate €450 million in profit over the first three years, while also creating around 150 jobs.
The project was explained in further detail during a press conference led by PN MP and candidate Ivan Castillo.
Castillo explained that by implementing this fuel hub, the PN would be taking infrastructural pressures away from the ground by creating a new economic niche to the sea, adding that the party would continue to generate wealth without damaging Malta.
He insisted that the project is “future-proof” since it can adapt to changes in the fuel market without added costs, adding that bunkering operators have responded positively to the project.
Castillo pointed out that the Labour Party (PL) has been promising to remove the LNG tanker in Delimara for around 13 years. The PN promised to move the tanker within the first two to five years of their legislature, by relocating it in Hurd’s Bank.
This comes after PN Leader Alex Borg proposed the creation of a Mediterranean Maritime Fuel Hub, which consists of building bunkering infrastructure near Hurd’s Bank.
Hurd’s Bank lies just outside of Maltese territorial waters but forms part of Malta’s Exclusive Economic Zone, approximately 22km away from Marsaxlokk.
The event was also addressed by candidates Duncan Borg Myatt, Stanley Zammit, Toni Bezzina, Oliver Cini, and Stefan Caruana.
