Electoral Commission issues final voting reminders ahead of Saturday election
The Electoral Commission reminds people voting will open on 7am and close at 10pm on Saturday
Public voting for the general election on Saturday 30 May will take place between 7am and 10pm, the Electoral Commission reminded voters. Voters must cast their ballot at the polling centre indicated on their voting document.
It explained that ten voters who are able to vote without assistance are to enter the polling booth for every voter who requires assistance from the Assistant Electoral Commissioners.
While polling booths open Saturday, 15,312 voters have already abstained from the general election by not collecting their voting document. By Thursday at midnight when the deadline to pick up the voting document expired, 4.3% of eligible voters failed to turn up.
The Electoral Commission underlined to the public that anyone who impedes or prevents a voter from freely exercising their right to vote is committing an offence under the law.
The commission also warned that the use of mobile phones, cameras, and photographic equipment in polling places is prohibited, and that anyone found contravening this regulation may be guilty of an offence and may be liable on conviction to a fine and/or imprisonment.
