Voter turnout reaches 43.59% by 2pm

The Electoral Commission has announced an average voter turnout of 43.59% across all 13 districts by 2pm on today's general election day.

This is up from 40.45% recorded at the same point in the 2022 election, a rise of just over three percentage points.

The First District recorded the highest turnout by 2pm at 47.30%, followed closely by the Eighth District at 46.46% and the Ninth at 46.02%.

At the other end of the scale, the Twelfth District, which covers Naxxar, St Paul's Bay and Mellieħa, again recorded the lowest figure at 39.76%, consistent with its historically lower participation rates.

The figures do not include votes cast during the early voting days preceding the election. In 2022, the initial 2pm count stood at 40.45%.

Out of the eligible 355,075 voters, so far only 143,628 voted.
