No ‘substantial positive changes’ to Tigné Point - AD

MIDI developers “not proposing any substantial positive changes” in their proposals at Tigne' Point - Alternattiva Demokratika.

AD was reacting to the amendment of Midi plc's master plan for the Tigné North tower, approved in outline development permit, which retains the 23-storey tower amongst other development.

This is not the first time AD has criticised the Tigné Point project, originally planned to be a low-rise development which later mushroomed into a gargantuan project covering the Tigné peninsula.

AD chairperson and former Sliema local council member Michael Briguglio said the development will have a negative impact on landscape, especially due to the 23-storey tower. He said the massive influx of cars, and resultant pollution in an already congested area will be significant, and urged MEPA to consider “the cumulative impact of all developments in Tigné and Qui-si-sana.”

He said that while the area is already characterised by “overdevelopment” due to the MIDI and Fort Cambridge developments, another “mega-project” - Townsquare -is also being proposed. This is also projected to comprise a 23-storey tower amongst other developments and is projected to have an increase of over 4,000 cars daily in the area.

AD community development spokesperson André Vella underlined the importance that Sliema does not face “further negative impacts due to irresponsible planning” and expressed hope that MEPA does not approve “further deterioration of the quality of life of Sliema residents. “

It also noted that the closing date for the public to submit comments to MEPA on the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is Friday 24 June.
