Over €10 million worth of fines issued by local wardens
Figures reveal that over €10 million were collected from fines issued by local wardens over the last year and a half.
The Malta Independent on Sunday reports that over the last 18 months, some €10,278,545 worth of fines were issued by local wardens. The report is based on figures sent by the Department of Local Government.
The paper also reports a significant surplus of funds and no replies where given to questions asking where the surplus funds are.
“Between January 2010 and June of this year, expenditure related to the system amounted to €6,116,452, accounting for a surplus of €4,162,093,” the report says.
The paper also quotes unidentified sources saying that recently, councils have been receiving nothing from the surplus of the revenue generated by the fines.
