‘We are in the eye of the storm’, warns permanent secretary on economy
The permanent secretary at the Ministry of Finance warns that postponing decisions would only 'make matters worse'.
During a closed meeting between the highest officials in the public service, Alfred Camilleri, permanent secretary at the Finance Ministry, warned about the Government’s finances.
Sister newspaper Illum reports how Camilleri advised those present not to listen to what was being said outside, with clear reference to Finance Minister Tonio Fenech.
“We are in the eye of the storm. Wherever we move or adjust we are going to get it. It will only be worse if we continue to postpone decisions,” Camilleri said.
