Bondi booed at Santana concert

Mexican guitar legend thrilled audience with an eclectic mix of old classics and recent hits, but was visibly perplexed when crowds booed at Lou Bondi's big screen appearance.

Mexican Rock legend Carlos Santana delighted crowds at Ta’Qali, Malta yesterday evening.  The Santana concert had to be transferred to the private gigantesque tent from the ‘fosos’ in Floriana after warnings of Force 7 winds.

Apart from an unforgettable performance which also included a special appearance of his second wife Cindy Blackman on the drums, the concert will also be remembered for a particular spontaneous booing and hissing incident.

This took place after the screens focused for a split second on TV presenter Lou Bondi who was on the front row.
His appearance led to a reaction from the crowd who booed at his appearance on the large screen as Santana was introducing one of his tracks in Spanish.

Carlos Santana 64, could not quite understand what the hissing was about and was heard muttering: “Peace and love.”

Bondi has been a presenter on Maltese State TV for over a decade and has been targeted by the Labour Party as a government apologist. He is also a director of the media group, Where’s Everybody, he also presents himself as a rock aficionado and a ‘guitarist.’
