200 residential roads rebuilt in 13 months

Last three residential roads to be rebuilt in Lija, as work begins on roads in Ghaxaq, St Paul’s Bay and Zebbug.

During a site visit, Parliamentary Secretary Chris Said and Lija Mayor Ian Castaldi Paris said that during the past 13 months, 200 residential roads have been re-surfaced with new services laid out.

Funds for the reconstruction of residential roads have been sought through various schemes administered by the Parliamentary Secretariat for Local Councils.

Other public calls for tender were issued by Local Councils to rebuild more residential roads as various localities undergo a ‘facelift’.

Castaldi Paris said, “the rebuilding of these roads in Lija would not have been possible without the Public Private Partnership Scheme".

Works have concluded or are proceeding at “a very fast pace” and “according to schedule” according to Said in various localities including Swieqi (Madliena), Mqabba, Għargħur, Dingli, Lija, Ħal Kirkop, Birkirkara, Nadur, Naxxar, Xagħra, Gżira, Ħal Qormi and Għajnsielem.
