Nathan Farrugia completes 27 marathon challenge
Nathan Farrugia, a Maltese athlete and CEO at Inspire, arrives in Malta after completing his 27th marathon in 27 days running a total of 1140km as part of the Kinder European Endurance Challenge.
After months of preparation, Nathan Farrugia completed his 27 marathon in 27 days challenge after gaining support of international confectionery brand Ferrero, to spread a message of solidarity while raising funds to support charity projects in Malta as well as every other country that provided local support along the way.
Some €32,000 have been collected and more donations are expected now that the challenge has concluded successfully in Limassol, Cyprus.
Donations from Malta are being transferred in full to Inspire and the Daniel Delicata Memorial Association. “It’s a fantastic feeling to have made it”, said Farrugia at the finish line.
Nathan gained a substantial following on Facebook as his endeavour was covered by various national and regional media in different countries. Supporters could track his progress via Garmin GPS tracking and follow his daily blog and video messages on the website 27challenge.com.
Messages of support encouraged him to persevere and complete the challenge, especially when faced with all sorts of adversity according to a press release today.
Difficulties included the theft of vital equipment from the camper van on the second day in Estonia, a painful leg injury that developed on the tenth day, a problem with border control in Romania and a general strike in Greece that threatened to delay the final marathon in Cyprus on Sunday.
