Nurses call for more recruitment

The Malta Union of Midwives & Nurses is claiming its appeals for the induction of 25 new nurses have fallen on deaf ears, as the health division has not engaged the latest nursing graduates.

“We can’t understand how a country suffering from an acute lack of nurses in every hospital can afford not to engage new nurses,” MUMN secretary-general Colin Galea said in a statement.

“After the prime minister praised the health minister for the work he is doing, the MUMN is expecting the same minister to insist these new nurses are engaged by the health sector. The same goes for seven departmental nursing officers, whose exam results have not even been published,” Galea said.
