Food warning issued on smoked salmon product
Food warning issued by ood Safety and Security Authority on a smoked salmon for possible bacterial contamination
The Food Safety and Security Authority has published a warning on a batch of Deluxe brand Salmone Affumicato Norvegese con pistacchio sold at Lidl.
The authority informed the public that the smoked salmon product should not be consumed since it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, which can cause a serious and sometimes fatal infection called listeriosis.
Symptoms of listeriosis include mild flu-like symptoms, or gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. In rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications.
Pregnant women, babies, and people with weakened immune systems, such as the elderly, are more vulnerable to the infection.
The infection takes an average of three weeks to show symptoms, sometimes ranging from three to 70 days.
Consumers are advised not to consume the implicated product and either dispose of it or return it to the store from which it was purchased.
