Food warning issued on Italiamo Olive and Almond Cream
Food warning issued by Food Safety and Security Authority on an Olive and Almond Cream for possible bacterial contamination
The Food Safety and Security Authority has published a warning on a batch of Italiamo brand Olive and Almond Cream purchased from Lidl.
The authority informed the public that the sauce must not be consumed since it is potentially contaminated with Clostridium botulinum, which produces one of the most lethal toxins known.
The toxin affects the nervous system causing a dangerous condition called botulism, leading to descending muscle paralysis, difficulty breathing, and potentially death if untreated.
Early symptoms in adults typically include severe fatigue, weakness, dizziness, and dry mouth, which rapidly progress to blurred vision, drooping eyelids, and difficulty speaking or swallowing.
These symptoms typically begin 12 to 36 hours after consuming the bacteria.
Consumers are advised not to consume the implicated product and either dispose of it or return it to the store from which it was purchased.
