The Malta Pyrotechnic Association (MPA) launched a STEM-based e-learning platform offering lectures in pyrotechnic art to kick off Malta and Gozo’s village festa season.

The sixteen part lecture series explores key areas of pyrotechnics such as pyro-chemistry, physics, digital technology, environmental responsibility, and health and safety.

Partly financed by the National STEM Community Fund, the initiative is open to the general public, who can follow lessons, complete assignments, and participate in discussions. The course is broken down into three sections, and participants who successfully complete all the requirements will be awarded a certificate.

The MPA explained that the course aims to foster scientific curiosity and critical thinking with the wider purpose of bridging the gap between the pyrotechnic community and individuals who may hold reservations about firework displays.

The association added that it seeks to use education to reduce the risks associated with fireworks manufacturing and display, while simultaneously celebrating the artistry, social dimension, and cultural significance of Maltese pyrotechnics.
