In his first address to the nation of the new legislature, Prime Minister Robert Abela promised to deliver a stronger economy and better quality of life for all.
Abela stated that for the first time in the country’s history, a party has been entrusted with a fourth consecutive electoral mandate. He described this victory as a signal by the public to place their trust in his leadership and his team to guide the country’s future.
Abela noted that the PL’s manifesto, which will give direction to government, is designed to improve the quality of life for citizens, making it easier and better at every stage. He stressed that the unprecedented economic growth achieved in recent years continues to serve as a shield for the country.
The prime minister outlined his intention to maintain the country’s "economic engine," with the goal of ensuring Malta’s economy remains the best in Europe.
Abela claimed that this economic strength is essential for implementing a social investment program and providing citizens with more time for themselves and their families. He further reminded that the Vision 2050 is built upon several key pillars aimed at elevating the nation to its next level.
Abela detailed specific large-scale programs within this vision, including the regeneration of the Grand Harbour and the Malta in Motion plan. He also highlighted strategies for the energy sector, investment in the public health system, and seeing Gozo as an "island of villages".
