Balluta Bay closed to swimmers after sewage overflow
The Environmental Health Directorate says the overflow was caused by a sewer line blockage after construction waste was illegally dumped by third parties
Balluta Bay in St Julian’s has been closed for swimming following a sewage overflow in the area, the Environmental Health Directorate announced, marking the 17th beach closure since May.
The directorate said the overflow was caused by a sewer line blockage after construction waste was illegally dumped by third parties.
It said the obstruction was removed immediately after the source was identified, with the assistance of the Water Services Corporation.
A police report has also been filed.
The closure will remain in place as a precaution until Environmental Health Officers complete the necessary testing to confirm that the bathing water quality has not been adversely affected.
