Food poisoning patients flood hospital after workplace incident

A Health Ministry spokesperson confirms that at least two people will remain in hospital overnight after a group of 18 people were admitted over suspected food poisoning

A number of patients suffering from food poisoning after eating food supplied by a caterer at a workplace event were admitted to Mater Dei Hospital on Thursday.

The incident happened at St Julian's and ambulances were seen arriving at the Portomaso complex.

A spokesperson for the Health Ministry confirmed that 18 patients were admitted to Mater Dei Hospital, and that most of them have mild symptoms and will be discharged. 

However, at least two people will be held in hospital overnight for observation.

The Superintendence of Public Health has been informed, and the Primary Health Department is on standby in case additional cases crop up in the coming hours.
