Sliema's Qui-Si-Sana Beach has been temporarily closed after a road works contractor damaged a drainage pipe.

In a post on Facebook, the Sliema Local Council said the drainage pipe was severely damaged and that the Water Services Corporation (WSC) is working on repairing the pipes.

"Until the repairs are completed and the relevant authorities confirm that the water is once again safe for bathing, we kindly urge the public to respect the temporary closure and refrain from swimming in the area."

The local council said it is closely monitoring the situation with the WSC and other authorities and will provide updates as soon as possible.
