Part of a rock formation within the limits of the Aħrax area at Għadira has collapsed, though no injuries have been reported, Mellieħa mayor Gabriel Micallef has announced.

In a Facebook post on Friday, Micallef said, "This incident is a stark reminder that, although nature is beautiful, it can also be unpredictable and dangerous. We should never underestimate the risks associated with cliffs and unstable rock formations."

The mayor said he was informed of the collapse shortly before making the post.

He noted that he had immediately reported the matter to the Police, the Civil Protection Department, Public Works, and the Lands Authority, requesting a site inspection, an assessment of the surrounding rock formation, and any necessary safeguards, including barriers, warning signs, or temporary access restrictions.

Micallef appealed to the public to avoid approaching the affected area, whether by land or sea, until it has been professionally assessed and confirmed to be safe.

He thanked those who had brought the matter to his attention without delay and asked residents to remain vigilant and report any similar dangers as soon as they arise.
