‘Dear Daphne’: Roberta Metsola vows fight for justice will continue

European Parliament President Roberta Metsola vowed to continue fighting for justice for Daphne Caruana Galizia in a Facebook post addressed directly to the assassinated journalist.

Metsola’s post follows the acquittal of Yorgen Fenech, who had faced charges of masterminding Caruana Galizia’s assassination.

She recalled the promise made following “that black October day”, when Caruana Galizia was assassinated in broad daylight outside her family home, that her murder would not be swept under the carpet.

Metsola said that promise included continuing the fight until those who planted the bomb, those who ordered the killing, those who spent years abusing Malta’s institutions in an attempt to cover it up, and those whose corruption Caruana Galizia exposed all face the consequences of their actions.

Despite what Metsola described as nine years of failed attempts to bury the journalist’s voice, she insisted that Caruana Galizia’s pen remains “mightier than all their swords combined.”

“We will not give up and we will not give in,” Metsola said. “It is the crooks who will keep losing sleep because they know that disbelief will give way not to helplessness or fatigue, but to renewed determination to find justice for the corruption that you died exposing.”
