TCN community appeals for help after housing scam

Malta’s third-country national community is appealing for help in order to house a scammed victim who ended up homeless in the space of a few hours.
The victim in question accused Emanuel Balzan, also known as Tristan B, of defrauding him and another man of €11,000. Balzan was remanded in custody last week after he was arraigned with money laundering, fraud, misappropriation and forgery.

Following media coverage of Balzan’s arraignment, a landlord who rented an apartment to Balzan found two tenants he was not aware of in his flat, as the TCNs quickly found out they were living in a flat that was fraudulently rented out to them.
On Monday, Manav Sanger, a leader within Malta’s TCN community said the victim is currently living in a temporary shelter, as the community is doing its best to provide food for him.
Sanger noted that the arrangement cannot be prolonged, as the victim needs to live according to housing regulations.
The TCN community appealed to the public to come forward if they know of any available accommodation for the scammed TCN.
Sanger thanked Solidarjeta’s Secretary-Treasurer Gabriel Apap for assisting the TCN.
