GWU announces industrial action against company over ex-Air Malta employees' conditions
The General Workers' Union has warned that it will not accept proposals that could lead to members losing established benefits or having them reduced or withdrawn
The General Workers’ Union (GWU) has announced industrial action at Resource Support & Services Ltd (RSSL) over unresolved disputes concerning the employment conditions, benefits and entitlements of former Air Malta employees.
The union said the industrial action follows unsuccessful efforts to reach an agreement with the company.
At the centre of the dispute is the protection of existing conditions and benefits established under the current collective agreement and individual employment contracts. The GWU has warned that it will not accept proposals that could result in members losing established benefits or having them reduced or withdrawn.
Another outstanding issue concerns salary arrears dating back to 2023. The GWU said the matter must be addressed alongside discussions on the proposed salary increase mechanism.
The decision to take industrial action follows a meeting with members, during which the union considered their feedback on the company's proposals.
The union has formally notified RSSL of the industrial action.
The GWU stressed that the dispute goes beyond negotiations over new employment terms, arguing that existing conditions must be respected.
“The Union remains prepared to engage in meaningful discussions with the company to achieve a fair and satisfactory resolution. However, any resolution must provide clear assurances that members’ existing conditions and benefits will be safeguarded and that all outstanding obligations will be met.”
