MUMN withdraws call for health minister’s resignation
Long-awaited posts for occupational health nurses finally issued by Health Division.
After having called for the resignation of health minister late last year for "not having honored the 2010 agreement" between the Health Division and the Malta Union of Midwives and Nurses (MUMN), the union has now withdrawn its call.
The MUMN said that the long-awaited posts for occupational health nurses had been finally issued by the Health Division after a series of meetings between the union and the said division.
"In the light of the important specialised posts issue, MUMN is withdrawing its call for the resignation of the Health Minister and would like to thank the Health Division and the Health Ministry for finally taking all necessary measures to provide such an essential service to all hospital workers," MUMN said in a statement.
"As things stand now, occupational health nurses would be placed in Mater Dei Hospital and should be in a position to provide a health service to all government employees (not just to nurses and midwives) working in all State hospitals throughout Malta," the union added.
MUMN also said that other specialised posts have also been issued for Practise Development Nurses (PDN) with the aim of improving nursing care in the psychiatric, paediatric, and oncology sectors.
However, the union is still waiting for the Gozo Ministry to issue the same posts for nurses working in Gozo's hospital.
