Medicines used in the treatment of breast cancer out of stock

Tamoxifen, a medicine used in the treatment of breast cancer, is out of stock from the Pharmacy Of Your Choice (POYC) system. This medicine is used in the treatment and prevention of breast cancer, usually as first line after diagnosis and to prevent recurrence. Generally, the dosage prescribed by specialists is a tablet daily for five years after surgery.

A father of three who contacted Illum said that "it's really unfair that my wife, who is suffering a lot, is bound to go through this hassle because Tamoxifen is out of stock. We are distraught. We've been waiting for days to have a positive reply, but nothing has been done so far.

"I understand that certain medicines could be out of stock, but I don't accept the fact that it takes ages to get back to normal. The irony is that this medicine is out of stock in the month dedicated to raise breast cancer awareness. I wouldn't want anyone else to go through this pain," this irritated man said.

This person was told to get the medicine from Boffa Hospital. "This is indeed stressful for me, since due to my working hours, I have to take my personal leave to be able to get the medicines for my wife."

This man is concerned that Tamoxifen might be out of stock from Boffa Hospital soon.

Sources told Illum that even Letrazole was out of stock earlier this month. This medicine is essential for cancer patients and is indicated to prevent recurrence.

In October, a world wide annual campaign is carried out so as to increase the awareness of breast cancer.

During the electoral campaign, the Labour Party stated that a new government would implement a "new and modern system" that would guarantee that no medicines are out of stock.
