‘Get walking for cancer’ with Gianluca Bezzina

Local financial services company, Calamatta Cuschieri, to organise fundraising event in the name of cancer

Malta's singing doctor Gianluca Bezzina will be leading a fundraising walk next week on Sunday 17th November, being organised by the Calamatta Cuschieri Cancer Foundation.

Alan Cuschieri, a Director at Calamatta Cuschieri, who was one of the main catalysts behind the launch of the foundation, said that the country was still mourning the loss of prominent figures such as Nirvana Azzopardi and Helen Muscat, as well as many other people who have been lost to this disease over the years.

"Mourning our loved ones is not enough," Cuschieri said.

"As scientific progress is made and cancer treatment worldwide is continuing to make substantial improvements, we must ensure that everyone with cancer has access to these important advances," he said.

The CC Cancer Foundation, with the support of the Health department, is working to collect funds towards the provision of the most advanced cancer treatment and facilities. The foundation also aims to promote healthy living through activities that bring people together.

"Calamatta Cuschieri has always taken pride in our social corporate responsibility but this is about focusing on one area and really trying to make a difference. This is just the first of many events that we shall be hosting and we hope to be able to make a difference with the money collected," he said.

Cuschieri said that the organisation was "proud" to have Gianluca Bezzina on board because "he shares the same values of the company".

Gianluca Bezzina, on his part, said that he was grateful to be supported by a company that was genuine in its efforts to invest in people's lives.

"It is a pleasure to be able to use my music for such positive initiatives, especially in the health sector which is so close to my heart," he said.

'Get Walking for Cancer' is being held at on Sunday November 17th at 10am, starting at Chalet in Sliema and continuing along the Sliema promenade to St Julian's Bay - and then back to Chalet.

Personal trainer Richard Geres will provide a warm-up to the event while Gianluca Bezzina and his band will close off the walk with a performance.

The CC Cancer Foundation, a non-profit foundation, will be collecting donations on the day. Participants can donate by contributing €10 to the foundation in return for a free T-shirt commemorating the event.

The T-shirts can be picked up prior to the event from Calamatta Cuschieri's offices in Valletta and Qormi, the Health Department in Sliema, or from Richard Geres in St Julian's.
