A controversial sign that was set up last week raised some eyebrows over its content, and consequently had to be amended accordingly.

The sign was set up by the Fgura local council in a parking reserved for persons with special needs. “Stupidity is not a disability. Leave the parking for those who really need it,” the sign read.

Fgura mayor Byron Camilleri told sister newspaper ILLUM that they did not expect the amount of feedback they received.

“On the whole, people understood the message we wanted to pass but there were some who thought the language used was too harsh,” Camilleri admitted.

The mayor explained that his council resorted to such language after receiving regular complaints from disabled persons of irresponsible persons making use of the parking space.

“We wanted to send a strong message. We wanted to make these irresponsible persons feel guilty of what they were doing,” the Fgura mayor underlined.

A sign like this NEEDS to be thrown in people's faces. Just visit ANY Lidl car park and witness the able bodied "stupids" parking in spaces reserved for the disabled badge holders.
