MEP David Casa has held several meetings with various MEPs from different political groups and also lobbyists over the upcoming vote on the controversial citizenship scheme introduced by the Labour government.

Sources told MaltaToday that Casa also met current European Commissioner for Industry and Entrepreneurship Antonio Tajani over the matter.

This newspaper is informed that Tajani - one of the five Vice-President of the European Commission since May 2008 - is committed to the Opposition's cause and argued that EU citizenship "should not be given so easily."

As the European Parliament convenes in Strasbourg this week it is understood that Casa will hold further meetings to garner as many votes against government's proposal as possible.

MEPs will debate the controversial Maltese citizenship scheme with the Commission and Council on Wednesday afternoon and vote a resolution on Thursday.

I don't agree with the PM that he's taking so long to implement this. He has a clear mandate to govern and he must do it, as we all know he will do what's best for the country and us all.

The popularity of David Casa can be gauged by the results he got in the last general election when he was completely ignored. He was only elected to the EU parliament simply because his surname comes up straight after buzullotti! He and Metsola make the perfect pair in their hatred and bile against the LP government! Roll on Joseph Muscat don't waste more time with these nitwits and ignore the EU talking shop!

I wonder if David Casa held these meeting in gay clubs in Brussels, he seems to have had the habit of doing so in the past: http://www.illum.com.mt/2008/02/10/interview.html http://www.pinknews.co.uk/2007/11/09/maltese-press-question-mep-over-gay-club-visits/

None of these EU Commissioners can ever change any type of motion passed in Parliament by a majority of votes. So stop dreaming.

Salvino Giusti European Citezenship does not exist. It is a nomenclature of convenience only. The EU is not repeat not a Sovereign State. It is a grouping of Sovereign States, including Malta These individual States issue a legal national travel document called "passport". Some EU States, member of the Shengen Accord, relegated their national passport to the second division since within Shengen, a cheap, recycled-plastic ID Card is sufficient as identification across borders. The United Nations Organisation is New York issues a UN passport to its international Civil Servants in addition to the one they hold from their resepctivecountries. But these international Civil Servants are not UN Citizens. A citizen of the United Nations does not exist. David Casa should stop dreaming and damaging Malta's reputation for partisan gains. We are Maltese Citizens. We are a proud nation like the rest of them. Let them debate on the 15th. That is what they are paid for. The morrow will bring another day, - everything is forgotten by evening over sumptuous dinners and diplomatic receptions, indulging in alchohol, protocol and later Geritolo. In the morning we move to the next item on the Agenda and Prime Minister Muscat once more enters Castille, cool calm and composed to staret a new day of work.

@Normal Citizen: under British Dominion, lesser events would have been considered treasonous punishable by hanging!!! You are backing the wrong horse and keep ignoring the good of your Country. No it is not true that MALTA TAGHNA ILKOLL, but it is very true that MALTA L-EWWEL U QABEL KOLLOX. Some people tainted blue totally forget or ignore this.

David Casa will long be remembered as the silliest Maltese representative ever to be elected to Brussels. His anti-Maltese stand matches the credo of his erstwhile Brussels partner PN leader Simon Busuttil, for whom Malta's interests DO NOT come before those of Brussels. Anyway 4 more months and this puerile character will be history, thank God.

Spokes in the wheel, galore style. Casa is wasting his time. It will be a useless exercise, a worthless, unbinding vote. The IIP programme should come into force ASAP. Joseph roll up your sleeves and get things going, put your plans into action.

Of course Casa would not let his follow PN MEP steal the limelite in this matter now that the EP Election campaign is on. It is a pity that both of them are trying to get the people's vote by urging fellow MEP to vote in favour of a resolution which is trying to put Malta in a bad light.
