Private jet charter for Perm Rep

Richard Cachia Caruana uses private jet to return home instead of re-timing Air Malta flight from Tripoli.

Malta’s permanent representative to the European Union was allowed an extravagant choice to charter a private jet from Malta, to collect him from Tripoli and get him to Malta International Airport. He later boarded a flight to Rome and then to Brussels.

Richard Cachia Caruana, perm rep in Brussels since 2004, was by the Prime Minister’s side on Tuesday afternoon in Tripoli for the third EU-Africa summit.

He landed from Tripoli aboard the Eurojet Ltd seven-seater Learjet, a favourite in government circles, which costs $3,200 (€2,450) an hour.

The nation can no longer tolerate and afford such miscondust and hypocrisy: pain, sky high energy bills+ fuel for us: super perks+salaries for the pedigree boys+ private jets for them! Who the hell does he think he is? The cardinal orders: we pay!

Jeane Pierre Schembri Can you tell us how much you earn a month? I guess you have no problem to pay your water and electricity bills. Do you use public transport? I trust you make use of a car paid by our own taxes hux? Do you pay from your own pockets for petrol? Your bosses here in Malta goy themselves a Eur 600 each week pay rise. In naghag ta' Bendu got Eur 1.16 per week.

Sur JP Schembri, nowhere in the article does it say anything about who covers the cost of the trip....so what is your beef?? It just says it was an extravagant choice, paid for by the taxpayers of the European Union, of which Malta is a member. And it was a chartered private jet wasn't it?? We believe you, though if you can provide proof we'd be very happy. Take your time.

Reference is made to the Maltatoday article entitled ‘Private jet charter for Perm Rep’ published on 1 December 2010. The allegation made by Maltatoday that ‘Malta’s permanent representative to the European Union was allowed an extravagant choice to charter a private jet from Malta, to collect him from Tripoli and get him to Malta International Airport’ is a total fabrication. Following the end of the EU-Africa Summit held in Tripoli, Ambassador Richard Cachia Caruana, Permanent Representative of Malta to the EU, together with the other members of the Maltese delegation led by the Prime Minister, returned on a pre-scheduled chartered flight to Malta. As is normal with EU official travel, the expenses related to the trip were covered by the European Union. Jean-Pierre Schembri Permanent Representation of Malta to the European Union

Also how come "Richard Cachia Caruana, perm rep in Brussels since 2004, was by the Prime Minister’s side on Tuesday afternoon in Tripoli for the third EU-Africa summit." while at the same time "Aviation sources said Cachia Caruana arrived 20 minutes for Tuesday’s 2pm flight from Malta to Brussels." Do you mean that between 12 and 2pm he was not only at the Prime Minister's side in Tripoli but also on a Eurojet flying to Malta to catch the 2pm Brussels flight. He must be some Superman!!!!

Money no problem as ever for the big blue selected people.

Malta Today, please check your facts. I don't know whether the Eurojet part is true but definitely he did not catch the Air Malta Brussels flight yesterday.

Ghalxiex inhallsu it-taxxi! If he were self-employed he would not be able to make a living! Li kieku li mhux ghandu so...mu l-isfel, l-anqas kapaci ikak....i! But having annoited himself as the Cardinal Richelieu, he can get away with murder. I bet the PNTimes would try to hide as much as possible this new scandal! Mela il-fqar ihallsu id-dawl u l-ilma bil-oghli, l-pensjonanti ma ilahqux mal-hajja, u l-ministru mhux elett jikri ajruplan minn fuq dahrna! I think he ordered the plane because the EU would not function without him! GonziPn is digging for the Maltese the deepest hole for our kids! Dawn ma jisthux! Veru ghalihom u ghal uliedhom!

OR maybe he needed to find another asshole to stick his nose in, because Gaddafi's was not available. Do you think he's nicknamed Cardinal for nothing? Oh if only the Walls of Imdina and Dar Malta in brussels could talk.

Maybe he was gonna be late for a date......

Oh by the way correct me if I am wrong but is not Eurojet of the Tumas Group? How easy it is for their friends' commercial companies to increase their turnover.....and profits.....

Id love to know what these locusts of maltese taxpayers money would do if they would have to fork out money out of their pocket to get to work.... I wonder what was so important for him to get to Brussels which could not wait another day and so. Given his frivolous style I would not be surprised if it was a party or some fancy do.....Especially when they are coming and going for the silliest of reasons.
