MediaToday Managing Editor Saviour Balzan will tonight examine Malta’s social sector on Reporter together with the Minister for Social Solidarity Marie Louise Coleiro Preco, nine months into the government’s legislature.
Reporter on TVM will analyse the sustainability of Malta’s pension system and what reforms will be implemented in this sector.
Economist Malcolm Bray said that the total expense as reagrds to the pension system will rise every year, since pensioners are on the increase. As a result, the European Commission has urged Malta to reach the reitrement age.
Reporter, a ‘hard talk’ style programme, will also delve into the budget’s pledge to create a more equal society. Will the age of retirement increase? Are the budget’s measures the necessary platform to ensure a more equal society?
Reporter is aired live every Monday at 6.55pm on TVM. The programme is repeated on TVM2 on Monday at 10.15pm.

The pension system cannot be analysed alone. One does need to look at the Goverment debt and how it will be paid off.
Demographics.
Will Malta become Japan with 4 elderly for every young adult.
What taxes will support the health system in the future ?
Will the healthy pensioners and healthy adults keep subsidizing the addictions of sugar and fats of unhealthy Maltese ? How much money is being spend on life style diseases ?
Why are the private sector workers subsidized the civil servants which enjoy long summers with their families while the private sector workers have to slave till 17:30 in the peak of the summer ?
