Gaddafi's son Saif al-Islam captured, say rebels
Gaddafi's son Saif al-Islam has been captured by the rebels a National Transition Council (NTC) representative said.
Rebel forces have captured Seif al Islam Gaddafi, son of the Libyan leader, in the Rixos Hotel in Tripoli and are surrounding the Gaddafi compound, Bab al Aziziya, a representative of the rebel government told ABC News.
Mohamad al Akari, a Transitional National Council advisor, said that if Moammar Gaddafi is still in Tripoli, they believe he is in Bab al Aziziya.
"Tonight it's over," Akari said.
Libyan rebel forces are now in Green Square in the heart of Tripoli, according to multiple reports.
Meanwhile, Sky News is reporting that rebels are only 8km away from the centre of Tripoli and are being welcomed by the civilians, as Gaddafi called on citizens to take up arms. Sky news's reporter said crowds of Libyans had poured into the streets to greet the advancing rebel army, adding that there were no signs of resistance from forces loyal to leader Muammar Gaddafi.
But earlier on, Gaddafi dismissed the rebels as rats.
"I am giving the order to open the weapons stockpiles," Gaddafi said. "I call on all Libyans to join this fight. Those who are afraid, give your weapons to your mothers or sisters.
"Go out, I am with you until the end. I am in Tripoli. We will ... win."
