Malta delegation walks out of UN hall as Ahmadinejad claims 9/11 was 'staged'
The Malta delegation to the United Nations General Assembly in New York, headed by foreign minister Tonio Borg walked out of the plenary hall as Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad claimed the Twin Towers did not collapse as a result of planes and was staged by the United States.
Ahmadinejad was accused by Western nations of igniting anger by using his expertise as an engineer to claim the impossibility of the towers to be brought down by planes simply colliding into them. During an interview, the Iranian president continued to state that explosives must have been planted for that extent of destruction to take place.
During his speech, Ahmadinejad insinuated that the "staging of the 9/11 tragedy by the US raise questions worldwide, including within the United States."
The Iranian President claims he will not be making any further attempts to visit Ground Zero after being denied visiting privilegeslast year.
Following such disrespectful claims, Ahmadinejad still believed that the relationship between Iran and the US could be rectified. He added that US President Barack Obama still has the possibility to improve the situation between the two countries after 30 years of enmity.
