EFA supports EP adoption of Resolution on Palestine
European Parliament endorses Palestinian bid for statehood.
According to the Green party, the majority voting in favour of the resolution represented a “clear message” on how the EU should support Palestine.
Dany Cohn-Bendit, co-president of the European Free Alliance, urged the EU to support Palestine’s proposal to become part of the EP as well as try to “force Israel to constructively re-engage in negotiations” instead of simply waiting for something to occur without being proactive.
“Current divisions within the EU are undermining our ability to help get the peace process back on track,” said Cohn-Bendit.
A common voice should employed by the EU to recognise Palestine and end any uncertainty in resolving the issue.
“The EU must both call for a complete stop of all settlement activities and unequivocally condemn the new settlements that are still being announced. MEPs have today clearly stated this and called for the EU to immediately restart the talks based on the proposals of the Quartet. Cynically kowtowing to the Israeli government will do nothing for peace in the Middle East,” said Cohn-Bendit.
