Mourinho wants Zanetti at Chelsea

Jose Mourinho is working on a shock deal to bring 40-year-old Inter Milan captain Javier Zanetti to Chelsea at the end of the season.

The Blues boss, who worked with Zanetti during a successful spell in charge of Inter, became close friends with the experienced defender during that time.

According to reports in Italy, Mourinho now wants to bring Zanetti to Chelsea in the summer when his contract expires at the San Siro.

It’s claimed that Zanetti would play for one more year, offering cover across the back four, before retiring and becoming part of Mourinho’s backroom staff.

Zanetti would bring with a wealth of experience having played over 600 times for Inter during a 19 year spell. He also has over 140 caps for Argentina.

If this transfer deal does go through it would not only be a shock to Inter and its fans but also to Italian football fans in general.

The defender had previously insisted he would play out the remainder of his career with Inter and remain with the team afterwards.

But after having suffered a serious injury last season, Inter's legendary captain has not seen a lot of playing time with Inter coach Walter Mazzarri.

This situation could help Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho convince Zanetti to make the move to Chelsea.
