Valletta made a good start to the match, and went in front after just nine minutes. Steve Borg sent a cross from the right that found Lwelyn Cremona, who headed behind Sarao.

On the 34th minute, Sliema managed to equalise. From Gary Miur’s free kick, Muchardi saw his header being deflected by Ryan Camilleri, who committed an own goal.

Few minutes later, Mifsud delivered a cross into the penalty area that was met by Malano. However, the Argentine failed to hit the target.

On the brink of half time, Sliema had a good opportunity on goal as Milos Galin failed to make proper contact with Gary Miur’s cross.

Two minutes into the second half, Rodrick Briffa attempted a shot from target that went inches wide of the post.

Three minutes later, from John Mintoff’s corner, Peter Xuereb saw his header being saved by Bonello.

On the 82nd minute, Valletta managed to score the goal that awarded them the three points. Sliema’s defence failed to clear their lines, with the ball falling for Rodrick Briffa. The Valletta captain fired a stunner that ended up in the net.

Sliema’s hopes of a late equaliser took a setback when the referee sent off Mark Scerri.

The match was controlled by Philip Farrugia.
