Valletta hit five past Pembroke Athleta

In a game they dominated, Valletta scored five goals against Pembroke to earn a 5-1 win that puts them on nine points together with Balzan.

Valletta went ahead after just seven minutes. Federico Matias Falcone received the ball on the edge of the penalty area and fired a stunner that gave Mario Muscat no chance.

The Citizens doubled the score on the 41st minute. Falcone received the ball in an ideal position and finished behind Muscat.

One minute from the break, the holders threatened again when Aguirre delivered the ball towards Jhonnattan, who attempted a shot that ended up high.

Three minutes into the second half, Paul Zammit’s side scored their third goal. From Jhonnattan’s corner, Romeu Romao slotted the ball inside the net to make it 3-0.

Six minutes later, Jhonnattan was unlucky not to score Valletta’s fourth goal after he fired a shot that went wide.

Pembroke responded on the 57th minute when from a free kick, Regis Da Silva saw his effort ending up wide.

Ten minutes later, Muscat had to be on the alert to save Jhonnattan’s low free kick.

On the 77th minute, Valletta left no doubt on the result by scoring their fourth goal. Jhonnattan sent a cross from the left flank that was met by Ian Azzopardi, who finished home.

Just a minute later, the Citizens scored their fifth goal. In front of Muscat, Jhonnattan placed the ball inside the net to finish his excellent performance with a goal.

Seven minutes from time, Pembroke scored a consolation goal. From Da Silva’s free kick, Andrea Scozzese sent a header behind Bartkus.

Following this result, Valletta maintained their hundred percent record, while Pembroke are still looking for their first points.
