Champions League: Barcelona and Bayern Munich thrash their opponents

Barcelona and Bayern Munich were no match for their opponents in the first day of the UEFA Champions League group stage.

Barcelona vs Celtic

Celtic could ­do nothing against Barcelona’s strength in attack as they were defeated 7-0 at Camp Nou. Messi opened the score after just three minutes. Celtic had the chance to equalise when they were awarded a penalty on the 24th minute. However, Moussa Dembele failed to convert from the eleven metres spot. Messi added another goal three minutes later to give a solid advantage to the home team. On the 50th minute, Neymar scored the third goal. Nine minutes later, Iniesta added to the tally, while Messi scored another goal one minute later. Late in the match, Suarez scored a double to send Brendan Rodger’s side into a nightmare.

Bayern Munich vs FC Rostov

Robert Lewandowski opened the score for Bayern on the 28th minute. Thomas Mueller doubled it on the brink of half time to send the host in the dressing room with a 2-0 advantage. In the second half, Kimmich scored two goals in the space of seven minutes, and Juan Bernat scored Bayern’s fifth goal on the 90th minute.

Paris Saint Germain vs Arsenal

PSG seemed to be heading for another victory over Arsenal when Cavani put them ahead in the first minute. However, twelve minutes from time, Alexis Sanchez made them pay for wasting a number of chances by scoring Arsenal’s equaliser to earn a 1-1 draw for the English club.

Napoli vs Dynamo Kiev

The Ukrainians went ahead through Denis Garmash on the 26th minute. However, Milik managed to turn the game for Napoli by scoring two goals on the 36th and 45th minute to secure a narrow 2-1 win for his side.

Basel vs Ludogorets Razgrad

The Bulgarian side went ahead on the 45th minute through Jonathan Cafu. Basel pulled an equaliser on the 80th minute when Renato Steffen finished past Vladislav Stoyanov to earn a point for his side.

PSV Eindhoven vs Athletico Madrid

Saul Niguez’s goal on the 43rd minute made all the difference for the Spanish team who managed to overcome PSV Eindhoven 1-0.

Benfica vs Besiktas

In Portugal, Benfica seemed heading for their first win in their group after Franco Cervi put them ahead on the 12th minute, but Anderson Talisca had other ideas as he scored the equalising goal on the 90th minute.

The match between Manchester City and Borussia Monchendgladbach was postponed due to heavy rainfalls that hit Machester.
