Tarxien managed to go ahead one minute before the break when from a corner, Triston Caruana delivered a cross that was met by Fernadez Prendes, who finished past Justin Haber.

Three minutes into the second half, Floriana were unlucky not to score an equaliser. Steve Pisani fired a shot from outside the penalty area that hit the post.

A heated argument between a number of players led towards two red cards. Fernandez Prendez was shown a straight red card, while Clyde Borg received his second yellow card.

On the 59th minute, Floriana had a golden opportunity to equalise when Amadou Samb was fouled inside the penalty area. However, from the spot kick, Mario Fontanella saw his effort ending up high.

One minute from time, Tarxien ended up with nine men when substitute Rogelio Antonio Avila Filho was shown a second yellow card in the space of four minutes.
